CNWINNEX Explosion-Proof Compressor: Static Pressurization + Multi-Layer Intrinsic Safety, an IECEx-Certified “Compliant Heart”
The safety of an explosion-proof air conditioner is never determined by the enclosure alone. As the core moving component of the refrigeration cycle, the compressor is both the center of energy conversion and one of the potential ignition sources that most requires systematic control in hazardous areas. CNWINNEX’s affiliated company is China’s only explosion-proof compressor company holding an independent IECEx certificate. The compressor uses static positive-pressure protection as its primary structure, combined with an increased-safety junction box, intrinsically safe sensing and protection components, and a certified solenoid valve—forming a clearly layered, independently traceable explosion-proof system. Marking: Ex eb ib mb pxb IIC T4 Gb; ambient temperature range: -25°C ≤ Tamb ≤ +60°C.
Structural Anatomy: How an Explosion-Proof Compressor Confines Ignition Sources Behind Multiple Lines of Defense
The explosion-proof logic of this compressor can be broken down layer by layer:
Static positive-pressure compressor body. The compressor adopts the static pressurization protection concept, maintaining a protective gas at positive pressure inside the enclosure to prevent external explosive gases from entering the equipment at the source. The compressor body achieves IP66 ingress protection, maintaining enclosure integrity under dust, moisture, and washdown exposure.
Increased-safety junction box. The junction box uses increased-safety (“e”) protection, also rated IP66. Terminals are arranged inside the box; the compressor windings and crankshaft are located within the compressor, and the temperature sensor is placed inside the compressor through the terminals in the junction box—electrical connections and the temperature-sensing path are completed within the increased-safety framework, reducing the probability of sparks or hazardous temperatures under normal operation.
Intrinsically safe sensing and protection components. The compressor is equipped with two low-pressure protection devices, one high-pressure protection device, and one temperature sensor, all intrinsically safe simple components powered by safety barriers located in the safe area, with corresponding intrinsic safety parameters specified in the certificate schedule. This means the energy in the sensing and protection circuits is restricted below the threshold capable of igniting an explosive atmosphere—incapable of ignition even under fault conditions. The low-pressure and high-pressure protection devices are connected in parallel with the compressor via pipelines, ensuring the pressure they sense remains consistent with the pressure inside the compressor, so protection does not lag due to pressure-tapping path deviations.
Certified solenoid valve. The solenoid valve adjusts cooling capacity and is controlled by a certified electromagnetic coil. Four-cylinder compressors can adjust cooling capacity to 100%, 75%, and 50%, while two-cylinder compressors can adjust to 100% and 50%. In hazardous-area applications with fluctuating loads, staged capacity control reduces the impact of frequent start-stop cycles on the compressor and better matches cooling output to actual thermal load.
Differentiated ingress protection ratings. In accordance with IEC 60529, the Ex “p” compressor enclosure and Ex “e” junction box are rated IP66; the Ex “i” low-pressure controller enclosure and high-low pressure controller enclosure are rated IP30. Different ratings correspond to different installation locations and environmental exposure—a rational balance between explosion-proof integrity and engineering economy, rather than simple parameter stacking.
Standards Matrix: A Certificate Backed by Five IEC 60079 Standards
The compressor’s IECEx certificate covers:
In the marking Ex eb ib mb pxb IIC T4 Gb, IIC covers the most hazardous gas groups, including hydrogen and acetylene; T4 corresponds to a maximum surface temperature not exceeding 135°C; and Gb qualifies the equipment for Zone 1 and Zone 2 explosive gas atmospheres. The stacking of four protection concepts on a single component carries a clear engineering implication: protection-layer redundancy—if a single layer degrades under sustained operation, thermal cycling, or vibration, the remaining mechanisms continue to form an effective safety barrier.
Practical Value for Complete Units and Projects
Independent traceability of core-component compliance. In hazardous-area project reviews, auditors frequently require separate traceability for critical components. The compressor’s independent IECEx certificate allows the compliance evidence chain of CNWINNEX explosion-proof air conditioners to extend from the complete unit down to the core moving component.
Capacity control matched to real loads. Staged adjustment at 100%/75%/50% (four-cylinder) and 100%/50% (two-cylinder) enables explosion-proof air conditioners to maintain reasonable efficiency and stable operation under part-load conditions, reducing start-stop frequency.
A clearly defined wide-temperature boundary. The -25°C to +60°C ambient range covers conditions from cold regions to high-temperature oil and gas stations, providing underlying support for complete-unit operation in desert, offshore, and extreme-climate applications.
Applications
As a core component, this explosion-proof compressor is integrated across CNWINNEX split wall-mounted, packaged, rooftop packaged, and mobile packaged explosion-proof air conditioner lines, serving oil and gas / petrochemical process units, chemical and hazardous-material storage, power industry explosion-proof electrical rooms, fixed-installation marine and offshore cabins, and temporary or fixed work spaces requiring Zone 1/2 thermal control.
