ATEX definition – What is ATEX?

ATEX is the abbreviation of the French "ATmosphères EXplosibles". It is an explosion-proof directive of the EU CE mandatory certification. The directive applies to a particularly large range of equipment, generally including fixed offshore platforms, petrochemical plants, flour mills and other equipment suitable for places where there may be potential explosive environments.

Ⅱ: indicates non-mining equipment, divided into two categories: Ⅰ and Ⅱ. Ⅰ indicates mining equipment, and Ⅱ indicates non-mining equipment (including gas and dust places).

 

2: The explosive area is zone 1, which is divided into three areas: 1, 2, and 3, which correspond to the international/domestic explosion-proof areas of zone 0, zone 1, and zone 2, that is, 1 corresponds to zone 0, 2 corresponds to zone 1, and 3 corresponds to zone 2. (Note: Internationally, according to the existence time of explosive substances, the explosive gas area is divided into zone 0, zone 1, and zone 2, and the explosive dust area is divided into zone 20, zone 21, and zone 22)

G: indicates gas, and the equipment is used in explosive gas environments. It is divided into G and D, and D indicates Dust, dust places.

Ex: indicates explosion-proof

d: indicates explosion-proof type. The protection types of international explosion-proof equipment include explosion-proof type d, intrinsic safety type i, increased safety type e, etc. If there are multiple explosion-proof protection types, they are sorted in order according to the letters of their codes.

ⅡC: Indicates the gas category, the representative gas is hydrogen

T4: Temperature group, the maximum surface temperature of the equipment does not exceed 135°C, divided into T1, T2, T3, T4, T5 and T6.

Gb: Equipment protection level EPL, corresponding to equipment used in explosive zone 1.
